Hi Reader,

Quick math: how many hours a week could you actually give a practice right now โ€” this month?

Go ahead, count them.

Whatever number you landed on, I'm guessing you followed it straight away with a reason why that number of hours isn't enough. Am I right?

What's inside:

  • ๐ŸŽฏ This Week's Edge โ€” what actually fits in the hours you already have

This Week's Edge

YOU DON'T NEED THE HOURS YOU THINK YOU NEED

Most of us decide we can't start because we're measuring our spare hours against a full-time practice. That's the wrong comparison. A full-time practice is the end of the road, not the start of it.

I saw private clients on the side for a couple of years before I ever filed an LLC. It wasn't a full-time business. It was a few people, after work.

I was a single mom with two kids, and I needed extra income. I'd see clients one evening a week and every other Saturday morning, when they were with their other parent. I had to give up the little bit of free time that I might have had for myself, but I was building something important for myself and my kids.

It took me too long to figure out that the order matters more than the hours. Limited time spent on the thing that produces a client beats unlimited time spent on things that feel productive, but really aren't.

Color palettes and logos don't produce clients. Conversations with referring providers do. So if you have five hours a week, don't spend them making things pretty. Don't use your time to make your practice look like a practice. Use it to make your practice work like one.

None of this requires you to quit your job. The leap comes later โ€” and you'd be deciding it with evidence instead of hope.

Open your calendar and find the hours you have available to start working on your practice.

Your Turn

What's eating the hours you'd otherwise use?

Hit reply and tell me. I read every one.

See you next Tuesday,
Julie

P.S. This fall I'm opening a small group for RDs launching a practice of their own, built around exactly this โ€” starting before you leap. If that's something you've been turning over in your mind, reply with OWN IT and I'll tell you more.

Know an RD who'd get something out of this? Forward it their way โ€” it's how most new readers find me, and I'm always grateful for the intro. ๐Ÿ™
